Patiala: Punjab’s security apparatus has achieved a significant breakthrough in its fight against organized terror with the arrest of a primary suspect linked to multiple high-profile explosions across the state. Gurjinder Singh, popularly known as Baba Beant, was taken into custody following a meticulously coordinated operation involving the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Amritsar, the Patiala Police, and Counter Intelligence (CI) Pathankot. The suspect, a resident of Dhariwal in the Gurdaspur district, is allegedly a central figure in the Shambhu railway track blast, an incident that had sent shockwaves through the region’s transport network.
Investigations conducted shortly after the arrest have uncovered a web of criminal activity connecting Singh to several other acts of violence. Beyond the Shambhu case, authorities have established his direct involvement in the Sarhind railway track explosion and a brazen grenade attack on the CIA office in Moga. Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav officially announced that the arrest of Gurjinder Singh, coupled with previous evidence and recoveries, has effectively solved three major terror cases. The DGP highlighted that this success is a testament to the heightened vigilance and seamless coordination between various intelligence wings. He emphasized that the state remains fully committed to maintaining peace and will show zero tolerance toward any attempts to disrupt the social fabric of Punjab.
