Chandigarh: The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has issued a comprehensive public notice regarding a series of long-duration power cuts scheduled to take place from April 21 to April 28, 2026. Major urban hubs including Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Bathinda, Patiala, and Mohali will be impacted by these outages, which are expected to last between 8 to 10 hours daily. Powercom has cited essential maintenance, distribution system improvements, and modernization efforts as the primary reasons for these disruptions. These maintenance activities come at a critical time as the state faces rising temperatures, with the Meteorological Department issuing a yellow alert for heatwaves and temperatures already exceeding 35°C in 21 districts. The Health Department has placed hospitals on high alert, establishing special wards to handle heat-related illnesses, making the timing of these cuts particularly challenging for residents.

On April 21, Mohali will see outages from 10 am to 3 pm in areas such as Chhalli Kalan, IT City Block-B, Phase 3B2, and Phase 5. In Ludhiana, power will be suspended from 10 am to 5 pm in localities including Jagirpur, Tibba Road, BRS Nagar, and the Lodhi Club area, while the 66 KV grids in Khanna and Amloh will also be affected. Jalandhar residents in Central Town, Ladowali Road, and Mitha Pur will face cuts from 10 am to 2 pm. Amritsar’s Company Bagh and Thandi Khui will see similar 4-hour cuts, while Patiala’s Anand Nagar and Bhadson Road will be affected from 1 pm to 5 pm. Bathinda’s Basant Vihar and North State areas are scheduled for cuts from 9 am to 2 pm.

The outages continue on April 22 with Mohali’s Omaxe Township and Phase 10 facing 4-hour cuts, while Sigma and Mohinkalan will be off for 8 hours. Ludhiana’s Industrial Area-A, Pratap Nagar, and various villages in the Khanna/Amloh regions will be without power from 10 am to 5 pm. Jalandhar’s Model Town and Lamba Pind will see disruptions from 10 am to 3 pm. Amritsar’s Haripura and Shastri Nagar will face 6-hour cuts, while Patiala and Bathinda will follow similar afternoon schedules for maintenance.

On April 23, the scope expands to include Zirakpur, where areas like Patiala Road and Chandigarh Road will face extensive 8-hour cuts starting at 9:30 am. Ludhiana’s rural belts including Alamgir and Jaspal Bangar will be affected alongside Urban Estate Phase-2. Jalandhar’s Deep Nagar and PAP Quarters will see midday cuts, and Patiala’s Tripuri and Rattan Nagar areas will experience long outages from 10 am to 6 pm. Similar patterns follow on April 24, with Mohali’s E-Block and Ludhiana’s Rahon Road and Garden City facing significant downtime. The industrial sectors in Bathinda will also see widespread interruptions on this day.

By April 25 and 26, the maintenance will shift toward areas like Transport Nagar and Moti Nagar in Ludhiana, and Model Town and Raghuvir Nagar in Patiala. Jalandhar’s Leather Complex and Nivia Sports areas are slated for cuts on the 26th. Despite the current demand sitting at 6,000 MW, Powercom notes that demand previously spiked to 9,500 MW during recent hot spells. With the state producing 3,300 MW and purchasing 2,700 MW from the central pool, these maintenance blocks are considered vital to ensure the grid can handle the anticipated 10,000 MW load once peak summer temperatures exceed 40°C.
