AMRITSAR — A video circulating widely across social media platforms has sparked outrage among Hindu devotees after showing a broken donation box and damaged temple property inside the historic Shri Durgiana Tirath complex in Amritsar. The incident has raised severe concerns regarding security measures at one of Punjab’s most prominent religious landmarks, coming shortly after controversy surrounded donation box management at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
The viral footage reveals a broken donation box inside the parikrama area of the Sri Satyanarayan Temple within the Durgiana complex, along with shattered glass at the adjoining Hanuman Temple. Expressing deep distress over the visuals, Haridwar-based Kali Sena national vice-president Swami Ashnil Ji Maharaj questioned how perpetrators were able to target the sanctum despite the presence of modern CCTV surveillance and security staff on site. He noted that thousands of pilgrims offer prayers and donations at the sacred site daily, making the apparent breach both painful and condemnable.
Temple authorities have reportedly lodged a formal complaint with local law enforcement, initiating an inquiry into the matter. Calling for swift intervention, religious leaders have urged the Amritsar Commissioner of Police to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation to apprehend the culprits responsible for desecrating the shrine. Furthermore, demands have been raised to inspect the conduct of security personnel and CCTV monitoring staff on duty during the incident, with calls for strict action against any officials found negligent.
