Chandigarh: Former SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur has signalled that she may reconsider her political separation from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), saying differences with party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal could be settled through talks. She has also backed restoring the Akali Dal’s alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Speaking to a social media channel, Kaur reflected on the decision to launch the Punar Surjit Akali Dal, an initiative intended to revive the 106-year-old regional party. She admitted that the effort had failed to achieve its purpose and that the group had not even secured registration as a separate political outfit.

Kaur said the focus should now shift towards strengthening the original Akali Dal. She indicated that a conversation with Sukhbir Singh Badal could help bridge the differences between them.

She also clarified that, in her view, she had never personally severed ties with the Akali Dal.

Why Is Bibi Jagir Kaur Considering A Return To SAD?

Kaur acknowledged that a return to the parent party could invite questions about why the Punar Surjit Akali Dal was formed in the first place. She said those questions would be addressed when the situation arose.

Her remarks suggest that the separate initiative may no longer be the immediate priority. She argued that remaining away from the main party would not help settle differences and that strengthening the Akali Dal was now the more pressing objective.

However, she has not announced a formal return or confirmed any agreement with Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Bibi Jagir Kaur Makes Case For Akali-BJP Alliance

Alongside her comments on the SAD, Kaur advocated renewed political ties between the Akali Dal and the BJP. She argued that an alliance could help the parties form a strong government.

To explain her position, she referred to the tenure of former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. According to Kaur, Badal would assign six or seven officers to coordinate with the Centre and secure funds under various government schemes.

She cited this approach as an example of how political cooperation with the Centre could benefit Punjab and used it to support her argument for bringing the SAD and BJP together again.

Her comments add to the discussion around possible political alignments in Punjab ahead of the next Assembly election. For now, however, they reflect her personal position rather than any formal decision by either party.
