Ludhiana: A Sub-Inspector posted as the Station House Officer (SHO) of Tibba Police Station has been suspended following allegations of negligence in handling a domestic violence complaint. The action comes after Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma received a direct appeal from the victim.

SHO Jaspal Singh was relieved of his duties and shifted to police lines after reportedly failing to register an FIR in a timely manner despite serious allegations made by a woman named Dolly, a local resident. According to officials, Dolly had approached the police after being physically assaulted by her husband amid an ongoing domestic dispute.

Police Commissioner Sharma stated that the woman first tried to file her complaint at the Tibba station nearly a week ago, but no prompt action was taken. “She reached out to me personally, and when I reviewed the matter, it was clear the SHO had delayed the case without justification. Immediate disciplinary action was necessary,” Sharma said.

Following the suspension, a departmental inquiry has been initiated to examine the conduct of the officer and any procedural lapses involved. The Commissioner also directed that the woman’s statement be recorded without delay and that the investigation proceed as per legal protocol.

Meanwhile, CP East Sumit Sood confirmed that a new SHO has already taken charge at the Tibba station. He added that the instructions from senior leadership are clear: ensure swift justice and hold officers accountable for any dereliction of duty.

Police officials have emphasized that any disregard for a complainant’s rights—especially in sensitive cases involving violence against women—will not be tolerated. The case has sparked discussions about the need for stronger accountability mechanisms within local police units.
