Jalandhar: In a strong and decisive move following the brutal murder of a 13-year-old girl in Jalandhar, Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur has dismissed ASI Mangat Ram from service. The officer was terminated for gross negligence during the investigation and for misleading the victim’s family at a crucial time.

According to officials, ASI Mangat Ram falsely assured the grieving family that their daughter was not inside the neighbour’s house. The child’s body was later recovered from the same location, exposing the officer’s negligence and dishonesty. An internal inquiry confirmed that he provided false information instead of acting swiftly.

Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur personally visited the family on the fourth day of the incident and assured them that the Commissionerate Police stands firmly with them. She stressed that strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty—regardless of their position within the police force.

Meanwhile, the prime accused, Harminder Singh alias Happy, has been arrested and sent to nine days of police remand for further investigation. The victim’s family has demanded that the case be heard in a Fast Track Court to ensure the earliest possible capital punishment for the accused.
