Amritsar (Punjab): In a significant development in the murder case of Kanchan Kumar, also known as Bhabhi Kamal Kaur, the Bathinda Police have arrested Ranjit Singh, who is suspected to have assisted the prime accused, Amritpal Mehro, in evading arrest after the crime.

Ranjit Singh was brought to Bathinda from Amritsar on a production warrant and has been taken into custody for intensive questioning. Investigators believe his interrogation could reveal crucial details about the planning and execution of the murder, as well as the escape route used by the main accused.

According to the police, evidence gathered during the probe suggests that Ranjit Singh played a key role in facilitating Amritpal Mehro’s escape from the country following the killing. He is alleged to have driven Mehro from Bathinda to Amritsar Airport, enabling him to flee to Dubai soon after the incident.

Ranjit Singh was earlier arrested by the Amritsar Police in a related matter. Subsequently, the Bathinda Police secured his custody through a production warrant to further investigate his involvement in the case.

Officials said the accused will be produced before a local court to seek police remand for further questioning. Authorities expect that his interrogation may lead to information about Amritpal Mehro’s whereabouts, his possible hideouts abroad, and the involvement of other suspects linked to the murder conspiracy.
