Amritsar: The recovery of a married woman’s body from a hotel on Court Road in Amritsar has sent shockwaves across the area. The deceased has been identified as Prabhjot Kaur, a resident of village Waraich in Gurdaspur district. Police suspect her husband, Mandeep Singh Dhillon, in the murder, who has been absconding since the incident.

According to the victim’s brother, Lovepreet Singh, Prabhjot was married around seven years ago to Mandeep Singh, a resident of Jethuwal village in Amritsar district. He said that while the initial years of marriage were peaceful, disputes later began due to the husband allegedly doubting her character. The couple had been living in Australia and had recently returned to India.

Lovepreet alleged that Mandeep forcibly took Prabhjot with him and later murdered her at the hotel in Amritsar. He demanded strict action against the accused and justice for his sister.

The victim’s father, Makhan Singh, said his daughter was married into a respectable family and no major dispute had surfaced for a long time. He added that after returning from Australia, the family had participated in religious ceremonies, and the incident came as a complete shock. He said the couple’s six-to-seven-month-old child has now been left without parents, which is the biggest tragedy for the family.

Providing details, ACP Lakhwinder Singh Kaler said the police received information around 1:30 pm via emergency helpline 112 about a woman’s body found in a hotel on Court Road. Police teams immediately reached the spot and began investigations. Based on documents recovered, the woman was identified as Prabhjot Kaur. Preliminary inquiry indicated frequent disputes between the couple.

Based on statements given by the victim’s family members, police have registered a murder case and launched raids to arrest the absconding accused. Police officials said the accused would be arrested soon and strict action would be taken as per the law.
