Chandigarh: After days of rain and cooler conditions, Punjab and Chandigarh are expected to witness dry weather over the next three days, with no official warning issued for rainfall or heatwave conditions. Meteorologists say the recent spell of showers and hail in nearby hill states has helped bring down temperatures across the region, offering temporary relief from intense summer heat.
According to weather officials in Chandigarh, daytime temperatures have dropped further and currently remain over six degrees below the normal seasonal average. Despite the cooler trend, temperatures are now likely to rise steadily between May 8 and May 10 as rainfall activity weakens across the state.
Faridkot recorded the highest temperature in Punjab at around 39 degrees Celsius, while several other districts also reported readings in the mid-to-high 30s. However, no district crossed the 40-degree mark.
Bathinda Airport recorded temperatures close to 39 degrees, while Fazilka, Ferozepur and Pathankot remained between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius. Cities including Ludhiana, Patiala, Amritsar and Hoshiarpur experienced comparatively milder weather, with temperatures hovering in the lower 30s.
Weather experts say a western disturbance remains active over parts of North India, including Punjab, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan. In addition, a wind pattern developing from the Pakistan side may continue to influence atmospheric conditions, leading to occasional cloud cover and gusty winds in some areas.
Another western disturbance is expected to approach the Himalayan belt around May 10. Under its effect, hill states such as Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand could receive rainfall and thunderstorms. The changing system may later influence Punjab and Haryana as well, bringing cloudy skies and isolated rain activity after May 11.
Officials from the Meteorological Centre stated that weather conditions across Punjab are likely to stay mainly dry and warm in the immediate future, with daytime heat increasing gradually. Rainfall chances are expected to remain low until the beginning of next week.
Meteorologists have indicated that weather activity may return around May 13, when parts of Punjab could once again witness light rain and thunderstorms due to the fresh western disturbance approaching the region.
