NCW Demands Swift Police Report in Ludhiana Case Involving Death of Pregnant Woman

Ludhiana: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has stepped in following the death of an eight-month pregnant woman in Ludhiana, directing the Punjab Police to submit a detailed report on the progress of the investigation within five days.

Taking suo motu notice of the incident, the Commission has asked the Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, to ensure that the probe is conducted in a transparent, unbiased and time-bound manner. It has also emphasised the need for safeguarding all evidence connected to the case and taking stringent legal action against those responsible.

In its communication, the NCW further underlined that the victim’s family must be extended appropriate legal assistance and compensation as per law.

According to police officials, a case of murder has been registered at the Daba police station in Ludhiana against Ajai Singh, a resident of Lohara village. He is accused of killing his wife, Pushpa Rani, on December 22. Preliminary findings suggest that the woman suffered fatal injuries following an alleged assault.

Police authorities have stated that the investigation is ongoing and that all aspects of the case, including circumstances leading to the woman’s death, are being closely examined.

The incident has drawn widespread concern, prompting calls for accountability and swift justice in a case involving the death of both a woman and her unborn child.
