Amritsar: Security forces have thwarted another cross-border smuggling attempt along the international boundary near Amritsar, recovering a drone and a significant quantity of narcotics during a late-night operation.

According to officials, troops deployed near the Kalam Dogar Border Outpost detected suspicious drone activity under the cover of darkness. Acting swiftly, personnel of the Border Security Force went on high alert, sealed the area, and fired in the direction of the unmanned aerial vehicle to prevent it from completing its mission.

A subsequent search operation conducted in nearby agricultural fields led to the recovery of the drone along with a packet containing approximately 535 grams of heroin. Authorities suspect the drone was used to transport the contraband from across the Pakistan border into Indian territory.

Officials said the recovery highlights the continued use of drones by smuggling networks to bypass traditional security measures. In response, surveillance along the border has been intensified, with additional monitoring in vulnerable zones.

Investigating agencies are now working to trace the origin of the drone and identify individuals involved in the operation. Efforts are also underway to map the broader network behind such cross-border smuggling activities.

Security forces have reiterated their commitment to maintaining vigilance and preventing illegal trafficking attempts along the sensitive border region.
