18 Dead as Landslide Buries Bus in Himachal’s Bilaspur District; Rescue Operations Underway

Bilaspur (Himachal Pradesh): A tragic accident occurred in Bilaspur district when a private bus traveling from Marotan to Ghumarwin was struck by a massive landslide near Bhallu Bridge at Barthin, along the Shukhar Khad. The debris from the hill crashed onto the bus, tearing off its roof and burying it under mud and rocks.

As of the latest reports, 18 bodies have been recovered from the wreckage, while two young girls and one boy have been rescued alive. One of the girls reportedly lost her mother in the tragedy. The injured children are receiving treatment at the Barthin hospital.

According to officials, around 35 passengers were on board the bus at the time of the disaster. Both the driver and the conductor are among the deceased. The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m., and rescue efforts are ongoing amid difficult terrain conditions. The identities of several victims have not yet been confirmed.

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved families. He assured that the state government stands firmly with the affected families and will provide all possible assistance.

The Chief Minister has instructed the district administration to expedite rescue and relief operations and ensure immediate medical care for the injured. He is closely monitoring the situation from Shimla.

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, upon receiving news of the tragedy, left the Kullu Dussehra event midway and rushed to the accident site to oversee rescue operations.
