New Delhi: India and Poland have agreed to work towards doubling bilateral trade by 2030, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk calling for stronger economic ties, expanded investments and deeper cooperation across key industries.

The goal was outlined in a joint statement issued after the two leaders met in New Delhi on Thursday, October 22. They also stressed the need for the prompt signing and ratification of the proposed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA), followed by its timely implementation.

The leaders said the agreement could create fresh opportunities for trade and investment, diversify supply chains and help businesses access new markets.

Modi Invites Polish Companies To Expand In India

During the meeting, Modi encouraged Polish companies to increase their investments and operations in India. He highlighted the country’s large consumer market, skilled workforce and expanding manufacturing and innovation ecosystem as opportunities for foreign businesses.

Tusk, meanwhile, acknowledged Indian investments in Poland and described the country as a potential gateway for Indian companies looking to expand across Central and Eastern Europe and other European markets.

The two leaders also welcomed the India-Poland Business Forum held during the visit, which brought together business leaders and industry representatives from both countries.

They encouraged companies to explore partnerships in industrial machinery, defence, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, mining, critical minerals, energy and information and communication technology.

Agriculture, AI And Semiconductor Cooperation On Agenda

India and Poland agreed to strengthen agricultural cooperation by resuming activities of their bilateral working group. The initiative is intended to support closer engagement and boost trade in the sector.

The joint statement also highlighted the growing role of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in economic growth, productivity and public service delivery.

Both sides agreed to pursue collaborative research in artificial intelligence, semiconductors and quantum technologies, while strengthening start-up partnerships. They also called for closer ties between businesses, research institutions and innovation ecosystems in the two countries.

Cooperation in the space sector was identified as another important element of the India-Poland Strategic Partnership, with both governments supporting stronger institutional and industry-level engagement.

Focus On Critical Minerals, Battery Recycling And Energy

The two countries also identified opportunities to work together in the circular economy and recovery industry, particularly in battery recycling and the refining of rare earth minerals.

Closer cooperation in geology, mining and critical minerals was discussed, with the leaders noting that a memorandum of understanding in this area was under negotiation.

These sectors could provide avenues for industrial collaboration as both countries look to develop more resilient supply chains and strengthen access to strategically important resources.

Direct Flights And Maritime Connectivity Discussed

The leaders welcomed the possibility of exploring more direct flight connections between India and Poland. They encouraged the civil aviation authorities of both countries to hold discussions on the matter.

Shipping and maritime security also featured in the talks. Both sides highlighted the role of cooperation between ports in building secure and integrated transport networks, reducing transit times and protecting critical infrastructure from geopolitical disruptions.

The joint statement further underlined the importance of improving connectivity through initiatives such as the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).

The proposed expansion of trade, investment and industrial cooperation reflects the two countries’ broader effort to strengthen their strategic partnership while creating new opportunities for businesses across multiple sectors.
