Tripura: Tripura Director General of Police Anurag Dhankar was found dead inside the state police headquarters in Agartala on Monday, with preliminary reports strongly suggesting it to be a case of suicide. Dhankar, a distinguished 1994-batch Indian Police Service officer, was discovered motionless inside his office premises. He was immediately rushed to the G B Pant Hospital, where attending doctors declared him brought dead upon arrival.
Following the shocking development, Chief Minister Manik Saha alongside several top-ranking government officials, including Chief Secretary J K Sinha, immediately visited the hospital to assess the situation. Senior police officials and forensic investigation teams quickly arrived at the police headquarters to secure the area and launch a comprehensive probe into the circumstances leading up to the incident. While the investigation remains underway, state authorities have withheld an official statement regarding the definitive cause of death pending formal reports.
The tragic incident occurred just a day after Dhankar addressed media personnel, where he had confidently stated that the law and order situation across Tripura remained entirely stable and under control. During his final address, he had highlighted the professionalism of the state police force and emphasized their close coordination with the Border Security Force to intensify surveillance measures along the international border.
