New Delhi: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman of an honourable and memorable reception during his proposed visit to India, High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi revealed on Tuesday. Speaking at a business reception hosted by the High Commission of India in Dhaka, Trivedi stated that New Delhi remains committed to advancing high-level bilateral engagement despite recent diplomatic friction concerning former Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s political remarks from India.
Trivedi shared that following an earlier meeting with Rahman in Dhaka, he travelled directly to New Delhi to confer with Modi, who underscored the necessity of a direct meeting between the two leaders. The envoy emphasized that differences are a natural aspect of vibrant democracies and maintained that lingering concerns between both nations can best be mitigated through open, high-level dialogue. Describing the two leaders as people-centric prime ministers, he expressed confidence that personal engagement would help address outstanding bilateral disputes and establish a partnership of equals.
Highlighting the shared aspirations and developmental goals of both countries, Trivedi urged stakeholders to look beyond historical grievances and focus on the future of their young populations. He identified mutual and unconditional trust as the bedrock of enduring relations and positioned the private sector as an essential driver for economic integration and employment generation. The gathering was attended by Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Chinoy, Confederation of Indian Industry Director General Chandrajit Banerjee, and prominent business leaders from both nations.
