Bharuch: At least 16 workers were injured after a major fire broke out at a chemical factory in Gujarat’s Bharuch district on Thursday afternoon, officials said.

The blaze erupted around 1 pm at Metropolitan Eximchem Pvt Ltd, located in the Jhagadia GIDC industrial area. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Ajay Meena, the injured workers were rushed to nearby hospitals, and their condition is being monitored. No fatalities have been reported so far.

Emergency response teams, along with local police, reached the spot soon after the incident. Multiple fire tenders were deployed to control the blaze, including units from Jhagadia and additional support from the disaster prevention and management centre in Ankleshwar.

Efforts to douse the fire were still underway at the time of reporting. Thick plumes of smoke rising from the factory were visible from a considerable distance, indicating the intensity of the blaze.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the fire, and further investigation is expected once the situation is brought under control.
