CHANDIGARH, April 23, 2026: The Punjab Government’s aggressive campaigns against drugs and organised crime are yielding significant results, with thousands of arrests and growing public participation strengthening law enforcement efforts across the state. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab State Media In-charge Baltej Pannu said that the flagship drives ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ and ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ are being executed effectively by Punjab Police, reflecting the government’s firm commitment to making Punjab safer.
Massive Crackdown on Gangsters
Highlighting the progress of the anti-gangster campaign ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’, Baltej Pannu stated that the operation has completed 92 days and continues to gain momentum with consistent action against criminal networks.
He revealed that on the 92nd day alone, Punjab Police arrested 254 individuals and recovered four illegal weapons. The total number of arrests under the campaign has now surged to 23,140, indicating the scale and intensity of the crackdown.
He further added that out of 79 individuals detained for questioning, 61 were released after proper verification, showcasing the police’s balanced approach of strict enforcement alongside due investigation.
Public Support Strengthens Law Enforcement Efforts
Baltej Pannu emphasised that public participation has played a crucial role in the success of these campaigns. He noted that the Punjab Government had appealed to citizens to share information about wanted criminals, and people have actively come forward to support the initiative.
To facilitate this, a dedicated Anti-Gangster helpline (93946-93946) has been established, allowing citizens to provide information confidentially. Pannu assured that the identity of informants is fully protected, encouraging more people to contribute to the fight against crime.
War Against Drugs Intensifies: 60,000+ Traffickers Arrested
Speaking about the anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’, Baltej Pannu said the initiative has now entered its 417th day, marking a sustained and determined effort against drug trafficking in Punjab.
On the 417th day, Punjab Police arrested 98 drug traffickers and seized 1.1 kilograms of heroin. He further revealed that the total number of drug smugglers arrested under the campaign has crossed 60,000, highlighting the scale of action taken by authorities.
Government Vows to Continue Until Punjab is Crime-Free
Crediting the success of both campaigns, Baltej Pannu said that the unwavering commitment of the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government, along with the active cooperation of citizens, has ensured strong results on the ground.
He reiterated that these campaigns will continue with full force until Punjab is completely free from the menace of drugs and organised crime. The government, he said, remains determined to dismantle criminal networks and secure a safer future for the people of the state.
