Kashmir: In a significant development in the investigation of the 2013 Tarzoo (Hygam) terror attack, the State Investigation Agency (SIA), Kashmir, has secured an Interpol Red Corner Notice (RCN) against designated Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Imtiyaz Ahmad Kandoo, also known by the aliases Fayaz and Sajad.
The issuance of the Red Corner Notice is being seen as a major step in the agency’s ongoing efforts to trace and bring the accused to justice. Officials said the move strengthens international cooperation in tracking the wanted terrorist, who has been linked to the 2013 attack in Tarzoo, located in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
According to the SIA, the notice was obtained as part of its sustained counter-terrorism operations and follows continued investigation into the case. A Red Corner Notice, issued through Interpol, enables law enforcement agencies across member countries to identify and provisionally detain a fugitive pending extradition or other legal proceedings.
Imtiyaz Ahmad Kandoo is a designated operative of the banned terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen and has been under the radar of security agencies in connection with the Tarzoo attack. The latest development is expected to enhance efforts to locate his whereabouts through international coordination.
Security agencies said the investigation into the 2013 terror case remains active, with authorities continuing to pursue all leads and legal measures against those involved. Officials described the Interpol notice as an important milestone in the broader campaign to combat terrorism and ensure accountability for those accused of terror-related offences.
