New Delhi/Kuwait: An Indian national was killed in an attack targeting Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday, prompting the suspension of air traffic and triggering emergency rescue operations, officials said.

The Indian Embassy in Kuwait confirmed the death and expressed condolences to the victim’s family. In a statement posted on X, the embassy said it was “deeply saddened” by the tragic loss of an Indian citizen and was coordinating closely with Kuwaiti authorities to provide all possible assistance to the bereaved family and those injured in the incident.

According to Kuwait’s state-run news agency KUNA, the attack struck Terminal One of Kuwait International Airport, causing casualties and damage to airport infrastructure. Following the strike, authorities suspended all air traffic and diverted flights to nearby airports until further notice.

Abdullah Al-Rajhi, spokesperson for Kuwait’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation, said the airport operations were halted as emergency teams assessed the damage and ensured passenger safety.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Health said at least 63 people were injured in the attack and were admitted to seven hospitals across the country. Official spokesperson Dr Abdullah Al-Sund stated that seven victims underwent urgent major surgeries, while several others received treatment for less serious injuries.

The injured include civilians, airport employees and travellers who were present at the airport during the attack.

The incident comes amid escalating regional tensions. Earlier this year, on March 30, another Indian national was killed in Kuwait after Iranian strikes targeted a power and water desalination facility.

Indian diplomatic officials continue to monitor the situation and are in touch with local authorities regarding the safety and welfare of Indian citizens in Kuwait.
