Surat: At least five people were killed and 10 others injured after two Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) buses collided near Bardoli town in Gujarat’s Surat district on Tuesday, police said.
The accident occurred on National Highway 53 near Uva village in Bardoli taluka. Following the collision, one of the buses overturned and caught fire, trapping several passengers inside and triggering a major rescue operation.
Bardoli Rural Police Inspector P.N. Jadeja said authorities are still investigating the circumstances of the crash and it remains unclear whether the buses collided head-on or were travelling in the same direction at the time of the accident.
“One of the buses overturned and caught fire after the collision. Five people died on the spot, while 10 injured passengers have been shifted to hospitals for treatment,” Jadeja said.
Officials fear that more passengers may be trapped inside the burnt vehicle. Firefighters and rescue teams are working to extinguish the blaze and search the wreckage for survivors.
Police personnel from Surat and neighbouring Tapi district rushed to the scene and launched rescue and relief operations. Further details are awaited as authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
