New Delhi: Pakistan’s top military commander, General Aamer Raza, has responded to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s warning of a stronger Indian response to any future terrorist attack originating from Pakistan, saying there is “no space for conflict or war in a nuclearised environment”.

Raza, who heads Pakistan’s National Strategic Command, made the remarks on Saturday while addressing the passing-out parade of cadets at the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) in Kakul. He also reiterated that Pakistan’s armed forces were prepared to defend every inch of the country’s territory.

His statement came amid a war of words between New Delhi and Islamabad after Singh warned that any fresh terrorist activity originating from Pakistan would invite a stronger response from India.

What Did Pakistan’s General Aamer Raza Say?

Addressing the cadets, Raza said Pakistan’s position on threats to its security remained firm.

“To those who harbour hostile designs across our borders, our stance remains resolute and unambiguous. There is no space for conflict or war in a nuclearised environment,” he said.

The commander also warned that any miscalculation would trigger a response beyond the expectations of the side initiating it. He reiterated that Pakistan would defend its territorial integrity and would not tolerate cross-border aggression.

The remarks combined a warning against escalation with an assertion of Pakistan’s military readiness. Raza did not announce any specific military action in response to Singh’s statement.

What Did Rajnath Singh Say About Future Terror Attacks?

On Thursday, Singh warned that any future terrorist activity originating from Pakistan would invite an even stronger response from India.

Speaking at a defence conclave in New Delhi, the defence minister pointed to India’s past military responses, including the Balakot airstrikes, surgical strikes and Operation Sindoor, to underline what he described as a shift in the country’s approach to security threats.

Singh also cautioned that India’s commitment to peace should not be interpreted as weakness. He said any aggression would be met with a forceful response.

His remarks signalled that India would respond firmly to future terror attacks linked to Pakistan, although the precise nature of any future response would depend on the circumstances.

How Did Pakistan’s Foreign Office React?

Before Raza’s statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Office had criticised Singh’s remarks.

On Friday, spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan described the Indian defence minister’s comments as provocative and said Pakistan was prepared to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity against what he called ill-advised aggression.

Khan also warned against rhetoric that could undermine regional peace and said Pakistan’s restraint and commitment to peace should not be mistaken for weakness.

Raza’s comments on Saturday reinforced Islamabad’s public position that it would defend its territory while warning of the risks of conflict between nuclear-armed neighbours.

What Does This Mean For India-Pakistan Relations?

The exchange underscores the continuing security tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly over cross-border terrorism and the possibility of military retaliation following a future attack.

Both countries possess nuclear weapons, making escalation a significant regional concern. However, statements by political and military leaders do not, by themselves, establish that military action is imminent.

For now, the latest developments consist of warnings from both sides. Singh has said India would respond more strongly to future terror attacks originating from Pakistan, while Raza has warned against miscalculation and reiterated Pakistan’s readiness to defend its territory.

Neither statement announced a new military operation.
