New Delhi: The final forensic report from AIIMS-Delhi in the high-profile Twisha Sharma death case has concluded that a gymnastics belt found at the scene could have been used in the incident, following the discovery of the victim’s skin tissue on the object. The AIIMS-Delhi medical board, which conducted a court-ordered second post-mortem on the former model-actress, submitted its highly anticipated 11-page report to the Central Bureau of Investigation in a sealed cover on July 10. Sources confirmed that the specialized forensic analysis definitively matched the injury patterns on the victim’s neck with the physical characteristics of the seized ligature material, which features a distinct metal ring at the end.
The 33-year-old victim, who had married lawyer Samarth Singh last December, was found dead at her marital home in Bhopal on May 12. While her husband claimed she had hung herself, an initial autopsy at AIIMS-Bhopal proved inconclusive because the local police had failed to produce the suspected ligature material before the local medical board. Alleging severe investigative lapses, the victim’s family approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court, which subsequently transferred the probe to the CBI and ordered a second post-mortem. The physical evidence was later recovered by investigators and handed over to a five-member expert panel led by Dr. Sudhir Gupta, Head of Forensic Medicine at AIIMS-Delhi, who noted that the board conducted an exhaustive, month-long scientific evaluation to provide a crystal-clear opinion for the judiciary.
The newly detailed forensic findings are expected to serve as pivotal scientific evidence for the CBI as it untangles the conflicting timelines surrounding the tragedy. According to the initial FIR, the victim’s family stated she was on a phone call with her mother less than an hour before her death, during which her husband could be heard shouting before the line abruptly cut. Subsequent attempts to reconnect were unanswered until the victim’s mother-in-law, a retired judge, answered and stated she was no more. The victim’s family has alleged that she was subjected to continuous domestic violence, mental harassment, and dowry demands from her in-laws, which they believe directly culminated in her untimely demise.
