Bengaluru: A Flipkart delivery personnel has been arrested by the Bengaluru police after allegedly making obscene gestures and harassing a woman inside a residential building in the Whitefield area. The formal arrest followed widespread public outrage after the details of the disturbing encounter were shared on social media, prompting immediate intervention by the Bengaluru City Police. The accused has been identified by law enforcement officials as Vijay Mallikarjun Kamat, and formal legal action has been initiated against him as investigators gather further evidence regarding the sequence of events.
The incident came to light after an online user posted an update on X, detailing that a delivery worker had forced his way into a washroom within a residential property and exposed himself to a female resident. In response to the viral post, the Bengaluru City Police swiftly directed the complaint to the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Whitefield Division to initiate a formal inquiry. A criminal case has since been registered at the Marathahalli Police Station under Crime Number 345/2026, invoking Sections 75, 79, and 329(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deal with sexual harassment, words or gestures intended to insult the modesty of a woman, and criminal trespass.
E-commerce giant Flipkart issued an official statement expressing deep concern over the development, emphasizing that customer safety remains a non-negotiable priority for the organization. The company confirmed that it has immediately terminated its engagement with the delivery partner involved and is cooperating fully with the local police department in their ongoing investigation. The corporate statement noted that while all delivery agents undergo mandatory background verifications and specialized training before onboarding, the company is thoroughly reviewing its internal safety mechanisms to identify any additional measures that could further strengthen customer protection protocols moving forward.
