New Delhi: An Air India flight travelling from Frankfurt to Delhi was diverted to Jaipur on Wednesday morning, October 14, following a reported bomb threat and security alert.
Flight AI2030, operated by a Boeing 787-9 aircraft, made an emergency landing at Jaipur International Airport. The aircraft was moved to an isolation bay, where security personnel began conducting checks.
According to reports, all 306 passengers on board were safe. Passengers and crew members were evacuated under security supervision and moved to a designated holding area at the airport terminal.
Why Was Air India Flight AI2030 Diverted To Jaipur?
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Malviya Nagar, Shiv Dayal, told PTI that airport authorities had informed the police about the emergency landing of the Frankfurt-Delhi flight following a bomb threat.
Police sources said security personnel were checking the aircraft after it was moved to the isolation bay. The nature of the alert and the findings of the security inspection were not immediately confirmed.
An airport official separately told Hindustan Times that the alert was linked to a suspected hijacking rumour rather than a bomb threat. Authorities were investigating the incident, and an official statement from Air India was awaited at the time of reporting.
What Is Squawk Code 7500?
One source cited in initial reports said the pilot had pressed Squawk Code 7500 while the aircraft was in the Mumbai Flight Information Region (FIR).
Squawk 7500 is an internationally recognised aviation transponder code used to indicate unlawful interference with an aircraft, including a suspected hijacking. Its reported activation prompted heightened attention to the flight’s security.
However, the code alone does not establish that an actual hijacking took place. Reports published later on Wednesday suggested that the alert may have been triggered inadvertently, but the circumstances remained under investigation.
What Happened To The Passengers?
The aircraft landed safely at Jaipur International Airport and was taken to an isolation bay for security checks. Preliminary reports said all 306 passengers were safe and had been evacuated from the aircraft.
Further information about the origin of the alert, the outcome of the aircraft inspection and the flight’s onward arrangements was awaited.
Air India had not issued an official comment at the time of the initial reports.
