Shimla: Relentless monsoon showers continue to affect large parts of Himachal Pradesh, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning that wet weather is likely to persist until July 10. Heavy rainfall has triggered landslides, flash floods and road closures across several districts, disrupting normal life and prompting authorities to issue fresh advisories for residents and tourists.

The weather department has forecast widespread rainfall over the coming days, with isolated spells of heavy rain expected in vulnerable districts. Officials have cautioned that saturated slopes could increase the risk of fresh landslides, while overflowing streams and seasonal nullahs may lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas.

Infrastructure Hit by Heavy Downpour

Several roads across the hill state have been rendered inaccessible after landslides and mudslides deposited debris on key routes. Traffic movement has been affected in multiple districts as restoration teams work to clear blocked stretches and restore connectivity.

In Kullu district, heavy rainfall caused a sharp rise in the water level of local streams, damaging infrastructure and washing away a bridge in one of the affected villages. Revenue officials are assessing the extent of losses, while disaster response teams remain on standby.

In Shimla district, falling debris and uprooted trees disrupted traffic at several locations, while flash floods in some areas damaged parked vehicles and roadside structures.

Authorities on High Alert

District administrations have instructed disaster management teams, police and public works departments to remain prepared for emergency response. Officials are closely monitoring river levels and weather conditions in districts considered highly vulnerable during the monsoon season.

Emergency services have also been asked to ensure quick restoration of roads and essential services wherever disruptions occur.

Public Advisory Issued

The administration has appealed to residents and visitors to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in landslide-prone regions and along riverbanks. People have been advised not to venture near overflowing streams or attempt to cross flooded roads.

Tourists travelling to the hill state have also been urged to check weather forecasts and road conditions before beginning their journey.

Rainfall Likely to Continue

According to the IMD, monsoon activity is expected to remain active across Himachal Pradesh over the next few days, with intermittent showers and isolated heavy rainfall continuing through July 10. Authorities have advised citizens to remain vigilant and follow official updates as weather conditions evolve.
