Delhi: A devastating fire in Delhi’s Rohini area claimed the lives of three members of a family, including a child, after flames engulfed a warehouse complex where several makeshift dwellings had been set up.
The incident occurred late at night in the Mangeraam Park locality, where a blaze broke out inside a plot being used for storing scrap material. According to fire officials, the fire erupted around 1:25 am and quickly spread through the temporary huts constructed within the premises.
Six fire tenders were rushed to the spot, and teams battled the flames for several hours before bringing the situation under control. Authorities said the congested layout of the area, coupled with narrow access lanes, posed challenges for firefighting operations.
Officials revealed that the fire originated in a 400-square-yard plot where plastic waste and other combustible materials were stored, which intensified the blaze and caused it to spread rapidly.
Emergency response teams, including fire services, police personnel, and medical units, were deployed immediately. The bodies of the victims were recovered from the site and sent for post-mortem examination.
Fire Officer Ajay Sharma confirmed that no additional injuries were reported and the fire has now been fully extinguished. However, the exact cause of the blaze is yet to be determined.
In a separate incident earlier, a fire also broke out in a patch of dry vegetation near the Rajghat Bus Depot. Firefighters responded swiftly, deploying multiple units to prevent the flames from spreading further. No casualties were reported in that incident.
Authorities have initiated investigations into both cases as concerns continue over fire safety in densely populated and unregulated areas of the national capital.
