Thick Fog Blankets Delhi as Air Quality Shows Marginal Improvement

Delhi: Large parts of the national capital were shrouded in dense fog on Monday morning, significantly reducing visibility and slowing down early-hour movement across the city. Despite the foggy conditions, Delhi’s air quality recorded a slight improvement compared to recent days.

Data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) showed that visibility dipped sharply to around 100 metres at key observation points, including Palam and Safdarjung, during the pre-dawn hours. Motorists were advised to exercise caution as low visibility persisted for several hours.

Air quality readings indicated that the city’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 188, placing it in the ‘moderate’ category. Of the monitoring stations across Delhi, 21 reported moderate air quality levels, while 16 stations continued to record ‘poor’ conditions.

Weather officials said fog formation was linked to calm winds and low temperatures, a pattern commonly seen during this time of year. Authorities continue to monitor both weather and pollution levels as conditions evolve.
