New Delhi: Delhi Police has registered a non-cognisable report (NCR) against Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma over an alleged slapping incident involving a youth in Tilak Nagar. An FIR has also been registered against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Jarnail Singh following a complaint filed by Public Works Department (PWD) engineers.
NCR Registered Against Parvesh Verma
Delhi Police registered the NCR under Section 115 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with the alleged incident involving Verma.
According to police sources, a video of the incident appears to show Verma slapping the youth. Police sources said there was no grievous injury reported in the incident and that action was therefore taken under the relevant provision concerning causing hurt.
Delhi Police said action had been taken under the relevant sections of law based on complaints received from Sahib Singh and a PWD Assistant Engineer. Police also said that additional complaints had been received and would be examined as part of the investigation.
The police are currently examining the allegations and circumstances surrounding the incident.
FIR Against AAP MLA Jarnail Singh
Separately, Delhi Police has registered an FIR against AAP MLA Jarnail Singh following a complaint by PWD engineers.
The development has triggered a political confrontation between the AAP and the BJP, with AAP leaders demanding an FIR against Verma.
Saurabh Bhardwaj, AAP Leaders Protest
Delhi AAP president Saurabh Bhardwaj, along with party MLAs and councillors, was detained by police during a protest outside Vikaspuri Police Station.
The AAP leaders were demanding registration of an FIR against Parvesh Verma over the alleged slapping incident.
Speaking to ANI, Bhardwaj questioned why an NCR had been registered against Verma instead of an FIR. He also criticised the registration of an FIR against Jarnail Singh.
Bhardwaj said the AAP would continue its protest until an FIR was registered against Verma. He also alleged that police had misbehaved with women during the previous day’s protest.
The police are continuing to examine the complaints and allegations related to both incidents.
