Delhi: A shocking murder case in New Delhi has taken a new turn after police arrested a former domestic worker in connection with the death of a 22-year-old woman, the daughter of a senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer. Investigators have also linked the accused to a separate sexual assault case reported in Alwar just hours before the crime.
The victim, an engineering graduate, was found unconscious at her residence in the Kailash Hills area on Wednesday morning while her parents were away. She was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Preliminary findings suggest she was assaulted and strangled, though the exact cause of death will be confirmed through a post-mortem examination.
Police identified the accused as Rahul Meena, who had previously worked at the victim’s home and was familiar with the layout and routine of the household. Officials said the suspect allegedly used a spare key kept outside for domestic help to gain entry, as there were no signs of forced intrusion.
CCTV footage captured the accused entering the locality early in the morning and leaving less than an hour later. Investigators believe the crime took place during this window when the victim was alone at home.
Authorities revealed that Meena had travelled overnight from Rajasthan to Delhi after allegedly committing a sexual assault in Alwar. In an apparent attempt to avoid detection, he sold his mobile phone and hired a vehicle to reach the capital.
Following the incident, police launched a multi-location search operation and arrested the accused from a hotel in Dwarka. During interrogation, it emerged that he may have stolen cash worth around ₹2 to ₹2.5 lakh from the residence before fleeing.
Officials said the accused had a history of borrowing money and was reportedly involved in online gaming, which may have contributed to financial stress. He had been dismissed from his job with the family a few weeks earlier due to repeated complaints.
A case has been registered against the accused under charges including rape, murder, and robbery. Police are coordinating with Rajasthan authorities regarding the earlier assault case, while further investigation is underway to establish the full sequence of events and motive behind the crime.
