Mirzapur: At least eleven people lost their lives in a devastating multi-vehicle crash in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district on Wednesday evening, officials confirmed. The accident, believed to have been triggered by a truck’s brake failure, has prompted a detailed investigation.
According to police, the incident occurred around 8:30 pm on a downhill stretch connecting the Dramandganj valley to the Lasoda area. Initial findings suggest that a truck moving downhill lost control after its brakes malfunctioned and rammed into another truck ahead.
The force of the collision crushed a car caught between the two heavy vehicles. The impact led to a chain reaction involving additional vehicles, one of which reportedly caught fire, worsening the tragedy.
Emergency response teams, including police and fire brigade personnel, rushed to the spot soon after receiving information. With assistance from local residents, rescue operations were launched to pull out victims trapped inside the wreckage.
Authorities said the deceased include residents from different regions, with several victims belonging to the Mirzapur district. Others were identified from parts of Madhya Pradesh and the neighbouring Sonbhadra district.
District officials confirmed that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations and families of the victims have been informed. Police presence has been maintained in the area to manage the situation and ensure smooth movement of traffic.
A comprehensive inquiry has been initiated to determine the exact sequence of events and confirm the cause of the crash. Officials said efforts are ongoing to clear the affected stretch and restore normal traffic flow.
