BENGALURU — A London-bound Virgin Atlantic passenger aircraft carrying 270 people was forced to execute an emergency landing at Kempegowda International Airport on Sunday morning after developing a technical malfunction shortly following departure. Officials at Bangalore International Airport Limited confirmed that the flight touched down safely back on the runway, with no injuries reported among the passengers or crew members aboard.
The long-haul flight departed the terminal at approximately 8:20 AM before flight deck personnel detected an operational snag mid-climb. In response to the issue, the flight crew placed the aircraft into a holding pattern near Tumakuru for over 30 minutes, burning off fuel and running necessary procedural checks before air traffic controllers cleared the plane for a precautionary return approach to Bengaluru.
Emergency response teams stood on alert at the airfield as the aircraft returned to land, ensuring a routine touchdown despite the declared emergency status. While the airline has yet to issue a formal statement detailing the mechanical breakdown, civil aviation regulators and airport engineering teams have initiated an inspection to pinpoint the underlying technical defect.
