Chandigarh: A horrific daytime shooting sent shockwaves through Chandigarh on Saturday afternoon after unidentified assailants opened fire inside a medical store in Sector 11, killing the store manager and cashier on the spot. The brazen attack took place around 2:30 PM near the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), a bustling commercial and medical hub.

According to eyewitnesses and preliminary police reports, two masked attackers arrived at the location on a scooter and entered Shri Kumar Medical Store posing as regular customers. Once inside, the assailants pulled out automatic weapons and opened rapid, indiscriminate fire. The perpetrators reportedly discharged around seven rounds within the premises, targeting the store manager and cashier, identified as Janaki, who sustained critical bullet injuries. The attackers immediately fled the scene on their two-wheeler following the shooting.

Terrified onlookers and market bystanders rushed a heavily bleeding Janaki to the nearby hospital, where attending doctors declared him dead on arrival. Upon receiving information, a heavy contingent of the Chandigarh Police rushed to the crime scene, sealing off the entire market block to secure forensic evidence. Investigating officers have recovered closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage capturing the movement of the suspects, which is currently being microscopically examined by cyber and crime branch teams. Police officials have launched an intensive manhunt across the city and neighboring borders, relying on eyewitness descriptions and surveillance data to trace and identify the absconding killers.
