Amritsar: A wave of panic spread through Amritsar on Friday night after a young man was brutally shot dead by unidentified attackers. The assailants fired seven to eight rounds, leaving the victim heavily wounded on the spot before fleeing the scene. Although nearby residents and relatives rushed him to a local hospital in critical condition, he succumbed to his injuries along the way. Police personnel arrived at the location to initiate a preliminary investigation and took custody of the body for a post-mortem examination.
The deceased has been identified as Manindra Singh, affectionately known as Manna, who was married and leaves behind a five-month-old daughter. According to his close friend, Sahib Singh Mann, the incident unfolded shortly after they closed their commercial shop around 9:50 PM on Friday. As the friends split up to take different routes back to their respective homes, three bike-borne attackers capitalized on the isolation near Manindra’s residence. They ambushed him and opened rapid fire. In a desperate bid to save his life, Manindra attempted to run, but sustained approximately four bullet wounds to his back and one to his chest, causing him to collapse onto the street.
While the family members alleged that police authorities arrived at the crime scene nearly six hours after the incident, investigators have confirmed that they are scanning local closed-circuit television cameras to identify the suspects. Images of three suspects riding a motorcycle have emerged from nearby footage, though their identities remain unverified. Sahib Singh Mann stated that the victim had no known personal enmities, leaving the motive behind the murder currently unclear. Deputy Commissioner of Police Alam Vijay stated that dedicated special teams have been formed to track down and apprehend the absconding suspects, promising that the culprits will be brought to justice swiftly.
