Cochin: An Air Arabia flight operating from Sharjah to Kozhikode was forced to make an emergency diversion to the Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) in Nedumbassery early Saturday morning after experiencing a technical glitch. The safe landing of the aircraft averted a potential crisis, with airport authorities managing the situation through a swift implementation of emergency protocols.
According to an official spokesperson for CIAL, Air Arabia flight G9 454 sought permission to land at Kochi after the pilots detected an operational issue related to the aircraft’s engine reverse thrust system. In line with standard aviation safety procedures, the airport initially declared a local standby at 3:19 AM, which was upgraded to a full emergency at 3:34 AM to ensure that all ground handling, medical, and firefighting emergency response services were fully primed for any contingency.
The aircraft touched down safely on the runway at 3:38 AM and was immediately taxied to a designated parking bay for inspection. Following the completion of mandatory preliminary safety checks, the full emergency status was officially withdrawn at 3:45 AM. There were 170 passengers, nine infants, and crew members on board the flight, all of whom landed safely without any reported injuries.
CIAL officials confirmed that regular airport operations and flight schedules remained entirely unaffected during the brief emergency window. After engineering teams successfully rectified the mechanical snag on the tarmac, the aircraft was cleared for operations and departed for its original destination at Kozhikode airport at 7:15 AM.
