Chandigarh: A head constable with the Chandigarh Police was found dead with a fatal gunshot wound to his head at his government accommodation in Sector 22 on Friday morning, triggering a comprehensive investigation by law enforcement authorities.
The deceased has been identified as Head Constable Nitin, who was serving in the Accounts Branch at the Chandigarh Police Headquarters. According to preliminary reports, neighbours alerted the police control room after hearing gunfire originate from the residence. Responding officers found Nitin lying unresponsive on his bed with a severe bullet injury. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where attending physicians declared him brought dead.
Crime scene investigators recovered a country-made firearm from the spot, which is suspected to have been deployed during the incident. Senior Superintendent of Police Kanwardeep Kaur, accompanied by senior officers and forensic specialists, arrived at the scene to oversee evidence collection and assess the premises.
SSP Kaur stated that forensic examination of the scene is actively proceeding and maintained that it remains premature to determine the exact motive or establish the definitive sequence of events at this initial stage of the inquiry.
