Chandigarh: The state headquarters of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Chandigarh received a threatening email warning of bomb blasts across cities in Punjab that remain open during the bandh called on August 21. Sent directly to the official party email address, the message referenced slogans such as “August 21 Punjab Bandh” and “August 31 School Bandh,” while demanding school closures on August 31 to commemorate Dilawar Singh Babbar.
According to security sources, the threat explicitly named banned extremist groups, including the Khalistan National Army and Babbar Khalsa, and made claims regarding improvised explosive devices. The message also mentioned the Punjab Director General of Police while threatening strikes on locations failing to enforce the shutdown.
Law enforcement authorities and intelligence units have launched a detailed investigation to trace the digital origin of the email and determine whether the sender possesses genuine links to banned outfits or used a spoofed identity. Officials have not independently verified the credibility of the threats, and heightened precautionary security measures remain in place as the investigation continues.
