Moga: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has stepped up its investigation into an alleged land compensation scam in Punjab, carrying out searches at seven locations across the state over suspected irregularities involving government land in Moga district.
The case revolves around allegations of illegally changing ownership records of government and institutional properties acquired for the construction of National Highway 754A and subsequently securing compensation through wrongful disbursement of public funds.
Officials said the federal agency initiated its investigation after registering an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) on the basis of Punjab Police FIR No. 101, dated June 16, 2024.
The alleged fraud involves the manipulation of land mutation records relating to government property acquired for the highway project. Investigators are examining how the ownership details were allegedly altered and how compensation intended for the land acquisition was released to unauthorised beneficiaries.
The latest search operations across seven premises are part of the ED’s efforts to uncover the financial trail and establish the circumstances surrounding the suspected irregularities.
The investigation is also focused on alleged misuse of public funds and fraudulent acquisition of government and institutional properties.
Further information about the people or entities covered by the searches, as well as the findings of the operation, is yet to be officially disclosed.
