49 codeine syrups, 520 alprazolam tablets seized in Sohna raid

Chandigarh: A joint team of the Haryana Drugs Control Department and police seized 49 bottles of codeine-based syrup and 520 tablets of Alprazolam during a raid at Kabir Nagar in Sohna, Gurugram on September 12 in connection with alleged illegal stocking and sale of narcotic medicines, Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Sumita Misra, said here today.

Dr. Misra said the raid was conducted by a team led by Mukesh Kumar, Drugs Control Officer, Gurugram-III, along with police officials, including ASI Vahed Khan, LHC Rachna and others from Sohna police station.

The team conducted the raid at residential premises in Kabir Nagar, Sohna, allegedly being used by Amir, son of Imraan, for illegal stocking and sale of narcotic medicines. According to the information shared by Dr. Misra, when the team reached the premises, women present inside the house locked the entry gate from inside. The team made efforts to gain entry into the premises, while some neighbours also created a disturbance at the spot.

The case relates to alleged illegal stocking and sale of medicines containing narcotic/psychotropic substances. She further directed that Codeine-based syrups, Alprazolam and other dual-use prescription drugs shall be sold only against a valid prescription of a registered medical practitioner. All chemists are directed to ensure strict compliance and not to sell or supply these medicines without prescription.
