LUDHIANA — Panic gripped the area surrounding Atma Park in Ludhiana on Sunday afternoon after an intense exchange of gunfire broke out between a police team and suspected gangsters.
According to preliminary reports, a team from the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) intercepted the suspects near the park. The armed suspects allegedly opened fire on the police personnel, prompting officers to retaliate in self-defense.
Two suspected gangsters reportedly sustained gunshot injuries during the crossfire. However, law enforcement officials have not yet formally confirmed the identities or exact conditions of those injured.
Senior Officials Seal Area as Investigation Underway
Following the shootout, heavy police forces cordoned off the entire Atma Park neighborhood, sealing off transit routes to secure the crime scene. Senior police officials, including Ludhiana Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma, arrived at the spot alongside forensic experts to examine the area and gather spent shell casings and physical evidence.
While eyewitnesses near Atma Park claimed that a heated confrontation between two groups of local youths preceded the shooting, police officials have stated that all angles are currently under verification.
