Hoshiarpur: A dispute in Sataur village of Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district escalated after a police employee’s vehicle allegedly hit the main gate of the village sarpanch’s house. The incident was followed by a confrontation and reports of gunfire. Police have arrested the sarpanch’s son, while her husband is reportedly absconding.

According to the information available, the vehicle struck the gate of the house belonging to Kuldeep Kaur, the village’s incumbent sarpanch. Following the incident, her husband and son allegedly went to the police employee’s residence to ask why the vehicle had hit their gate.

Sarpanch’s Family Alleges Police Employee Pointed Revolver At Them

The sarpanch’s family alleged that the police employee pointed his government-issued revolver at them when they questioned him about the incident.

According to their account, the sarpanch’s son tried to take the weapon away in self-defence, during which a shot was fired. The bullet reportedly struck a water tank at a neighbouring house.

The family further claimed that the police employee pointed the revolver at them again, leading to another shot being fired into the air. They alleged that the sarpanch’s son subsequently took the government-issued weapon from the employee, after which the family returned home.

These allegations have not been independently verified.

Police Reach Village After Incident

Following the confrontation, the police employee informed his department, prompting a large police contingent to reach the village.

A heated exchange reportedly took place between the police team and the sarpanch’s family. The family alleged that the police employee had attacked their house, while the police accused them of forcibly taking his government-issued revolver.

The police subsequently arrested the sarpanch’s son. Her husband reportedly left the scene and remains at large.

Police Register Case, Investigation Underway

The police employee maintained that the sarpanch’s family had attempted to forcibly take his service revolver and had succeeded in taking the weapon away.

Police officials said a case had been registered and the incident was being investigated from multiple angles. Further details regarding the sequence of events and the allegations against those involved are awaited.
