Chandigarh: Canada-based gangster Satinderjeet Singh, popularly known as Goldy Brar and associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, has claimed responsibility for the 2023 assassination of prominent Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Brar made the claim during a recent conversation with Sikh activist Paramjit Singh Pamma, alleging that Nijjar was targeted over his involvement with networks exploiting local youth through narcotics distribution and extortion.
Brar stated that his operatives tracked Nijjar and intentionally waited for him to exit the gurdwara premises in Surrey, British Columbia, before opening fire. He claimed that 50 rounds were discharged during the ambush, with 34 striking the target, while also alleging that another operative, Arsh Dalla, was believed to have been travelling in the same vehicle at the time.
The fatal shooting of Nijjar outside the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in June 2023 had triggered a major diplomatic confrontation between New Delhi and Ottawa after previous Canadian allegations suggested Indian state involvement, claims that New Delhi consistently dismissed as unsubstantiated. Brar, who remains a key wanted fugitive in India in connection with the murder of musician Sidhu Moosewala, operates his overseas criminal syndicate while under active surveillance and a 50,000-dollar reward by United States authorities, alongside other members of the Bishnoi syndicate.
