New Delhi: Punjab Police have achieved a significant breakthrough in the murder case of government school headmaster Gursewak Singh by arresting the primary suspect at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. The accused, identified as Sartaj, was intercepted by airport authorities on Friday evening following the issuance of a Look Out Circular after investigators received intelligence that he was attempting to board a flight to Canada.

A specialized team from the Kharar Police promptly reached New Delhi to take custody of Sartaj in the early hours of Saturday. Upon being brought back to Kharar, the accused was produced before a local magistrate, who remanded him to four days of police custody to facilitate detailed custodial interrogation into the homicide and potential co-conspirators.

During initial questioning, Sartaj alleged that Gursewak Singh had been harassing his wife, claiming that he had gone to confront the educator in Sunny Enclave, Kharar, on August 5. According to the accused, the interaction escalated into a physical clash, though he denied having any prior intent to murder. Gursewak Singh was brutally attacked with iron rods and sharp-edged weapons during the confrontation, ultimately succumbing to severe injuries on August 8 while undergoing intensive care at Grecian Hospital in Mohali.
