New Delhi: The Union Cabinet approved a comprehensive draft bill on Friday aimed at imposing severe penalties on individuals and organized syndicates involved in examination paper leaks. The executive approval came during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Parliament House complex, following his midnight announcement pledging decisive legal interventions to curb widespread recruitment and entrance examination malpractices.
The forthcoming legislation introduces significantly harsher punishments than existing statutory frameworks, incorporating provisions for specialized fast-track courts to accelerate prosecution and prevent academic disruptions for candidates. In his address, the Prime Minister revealed that the draft bill will be introduced in Parliament during the ongoing monsoon session to establish permanent legal deterrence against examination fraud.
The legislative movement follows persistent demonstrations led by the youth-led Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. Protesters have been demanding structural examination overhauls, the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET-UG paper leak controversy, and financial compensation of Rs 1 crore for families of affected students who died by suicide.
