NEW DELHI — Delhi Police on Monday arrested Hariram Gupta, the owner of the five-storey building that collapsed in South Delhi’s Satya Niketan area, killing at least seven people. Gupta was tracked down and taken into custody from Bhiwadi in Rajasthan following a cross-border search operation launched immediately after the structural disaster.
Officials confirmed that Gupta is undergoing detailed interrogation regarding the incident. Investigators are scrutinizing the circumstances leading up to the catastrophe, including the general structural integrity of the decades-old building and the specific repair operations that were underway in the structure prior to the collapse on Sunday afternoon.
The multi-storey facility operated as a boys’ paying guest accommodation catering largely to students attending colleges around Delhi University’s South Campus. Forensic teams and municipal authorities continue to examine building code violations, load alterations, and unauthorized modifications linked to the site as legal proceedings against the property owner move forward.
