ABBOTSFORD, B.C. — Police are investigating a suspected targeted shooting after a moving vehicle was struck by gunfire late Saturday night in Abbotsford, British Columbia, followed shortly by the discovery of an SUV fully engulfed in flames a few kilometres away. No injuries were reported in the gunfire exchange, though the incident has ignited intense public speculation regarding the identities of the occupants inside the targeted car.
According to the Abbotsford Police Department, patrol officers responded shortly after 11:00 PM on September 5 to reports of shots fired along the 2500 block of McCallum Road. Preliminary findings indicate that individuals travelling in a dark-coloured SUV pulled alongside the victim vehicle and discharged multiple rounds. While social media reports suggested as many as 12 shots were fired, investigators have not verified the precise number of casings recovered from the roadway.
Authorities have not officially released the identities of those targeted in the moving vehicle, fuelling unconfirmed claims that a prominent Punjabi music artist may have been inside. Law enforcement officials have refrained from validating any rumours concerning the victims, reiterating that the identity of the intended target remains under active investigation.
Roughly five kilometres from the crime scene, emergency crews were dispatched to a vehicle blaze in the 2400 block of Sunnyside Place, where an SUV was found completely torched. Investigators from the Major Crime Unit are working to determine whether the burned vehicle served as the getaway transport for the shooters. Detectives have urged motorists and residents who were near McCallum Road between 10:45 PM and 11:30 PM, or around Sunnyside Place between 11:00 PM and midnight on Saturday, to turn over dashcam or security camera footage to assist File No. 2026-38035.
