Tarn Taran: A wave of grief has swept through Piddi village, located four kilometres from Tarn Taran city, following the brutal murder of a 24-year-old Indian student in the United Kingdom. Kirandeep Kaur was reportedly stabbed to death by unidentified individuals in the town of Hayes, England. The tragic incident took place on Saturday evening, leaving her family and the local community in deep shock.

Kirandeep Kaur had moved to the United Kingdom approximately two years ago on a student visa. Her parents, Sukhdev Singh, a local farmer from the Khadoor Sahib constituency, and Baljit Kaur, shared that they had sold half an acre of their agricultural land to finance their daughter’s education and dreams abroad. After successfully completing her studies, Kirandeep had recently secured employment at a shopping mall in Hayes. According to family sources, she had just returned home after completing her work shift and was working in the kitchen when unidentified intruders broke into the residence and attacked her with a knife.

The young woman was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, but tragically succumbed to her injuries due to excessive blood loss. British police have taken custody of the body and launched a comprehensive investigation to apprehend the attackers. The devastated family in Punjab was informed of the tragedy on Tuesday night by an acquaintance residing in the UK.

Her siblings, Lovepreet Singh, Jagjivan Singh, and Gursharan Kaur, expressed their profound anguish, noting that Kirandeep had spoken to them via a video call just hours before the attack on Saturday morning. The family is now urging authorities to investigate whether the murder was a racially motivated hate crime or driven by another motive. They have made an emotional appeal to the Punjab government to assist in bringing Kirandeep’s body back to Canada for her final rites. Local political leaders, including Khadoor Sahib MLA Manjinder Singh Lalpura, former Congress MLA Ramanjit Singh Sikki, and several other dignitaries, visited the grieving family to offer their condolences and demand justice.
