Iran Condemns Fresh US Airstrikes, Says Military Escalation Has Undermined Diplomatic Efforts

Tehran: Tensions in West Asia intensified after Iran accused the United States of derailing diplomatic engagement by launching a fresh series of military strikes that reportedly killed one person and injured four others in the southwestern city of Mahshahr.

Iranian authorities said the attack struck an agricultural water pumping facility, describing it as another example of Washington’s expanding military campaign in the region. Officials in Tehran argued that the latest developments had effectively weakened months of diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions between the two countries.

The exchange of hostilities comes amid growing friction over the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest maritime trade routes and a critical corridor for global energy shipments.

According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the operation targeted multiple Iranian military assets, including air defence systems, coastal surveillance infrastructure, missile launch capabilities, drones and fast attack boats. American officials stated that the strikes were intended to reduce Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping operating in the Gulf.

The Pentagon also confirmed the use of a combination of fighter aircraft, naval platforms and unmanned aerial and maritime systems during the operation, marking one of the most extensive military actions carried out in recent weeks.

Washington maintained that the strikes followed what it described as renewed attacks by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on commercial vessels navigating through the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran, however, disputed the US narrative and continued to accuse Washington of using military force instead of pursuing dialogue.

Meanwhile, Iranian forces claimed responsibility for attacks targeting American military installations in the region over the weekend, further raising concerns about a widening confrontation.

The renewed conflict has unsettled international observers, who fear that prolonged hostilities could threaten maritime security and disrupt global trade, particularly crude oil exports passing through the strategically important waterway.

With both nations exchanging accusations and military actions continuing, diplomatic channels appear increasingly strained, leaving uncertainty over whether negotiations can be revived in the near future. International leaders have continued urging restraint, warning that further escalation could have far-reaching consequences for regional stability and the global economy.
