Chandigarh: The Punjab Police has initiated immediate administrative action against a senior officer following circulating reports of his potential involvement in an international extortion investigation. Inspector Gurinderjit Singh Nagra, who was currently serving as the Station House Officer for the Tanda Police Station in the Hoshiarpur district, has been transferred to the Police Lines in Hoshiarpur with immediate effect. This reassignment comes after authorities took cognizance of various news reports and social media posts alleging the inspector’s nomination in “Operation Hardball,” a major extortion-related probe reportedly being conducted by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation.
To address the serious nature of these international allegations, the Office of the Deputy Inspector General for the Jalandhar Range has ordered a formal fact-finding inquiry into the matter. According to the official press note, the investigation has been entrusted to the Superintendent of Police (Investigation) for Jalandhar Rural, who is an Indian Police Service officer. The designated inquiry officer has been explicitly directed to thoroughly examine all allegations, verify the facts surrounding the inspector’s alleged connection to the FBI case, and submit a detailed report at the earliest possible opportunity.
Senior police officials have emphasized that the current transfer is a preventative measure pending the rigorous verification of the facts circulating in the media. Authorities confirmed that further administrative or legal action regarding Inspector Nagra will be determined strictly in accordance with the law, contingent upon the conclusive findings of the ongoing fact-finding inquiry. The swift response by the state police underscores a commitment to maintaining departmental integrity amidst high-profile international allegations.
