Amritsar: In a major breakthrough in the ongoing drive to make Punjab drug-free, Counter Intelligence Amritsar has dismantled a prominent narcotics smuggling network. Following directives from Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, police teams arrested three individuals and recovered 25 kilograms of heroin from their possession. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav announced the successful operation on Tuesday, identifying the suspects as Bhupinder Singh, Ravi Kumar, and Vishal Singh. Along with the contraband, the authorities impounded a Hyundai Verna vehicle utilized by the suspects for transporting the illicit network shipments.
This major seizure comes just a day after the same unit intercepted two separate narcotics operations, yielding 13 kilograms of heroin. Preliminary investigations indicate that the arrested suspects were operating under the explicit instructions of an overseas, cross-border smuggler. The trio was responsible for gathering dropped heroin consignments from various strategically designated locations for subsequent distribution across different regions of Punjab.
Acting on precise intelligence regarding a major transaction scheduled near Mehta Road at Gill village, the counter-intelligence unit acted swiftly to establish checkpoints. The suspects were intercepted near the local Dana Mandi, where subsequent searches led to the immediate discovery of the hidden stash. Legal proceedings have commenced with the registration of a formal case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at the State Special Operation Cell Police Station in Amritsar, as investigators look to trace the wider network linkages.
