New Delhi: The Delhi High Court ordered the restoration of the official X account belonging to the Cockroach Janata Party, ruling that the initial apprehensions leading to the digital block are no longer applicable. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma allowed the plea submitted by the political outfit’s founder, Abhijit Dipke, who had legally challenged the administrative restriction imposed on their social media platform. The decision comes after the federal government confirmed that its primary security and administrative concerns regarding potential misinformation had effectively resolved.
During the court proceedings, Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta stated that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology had initially restricted the handle following specific intelligence inputs. The Union Government feared that various posts circulated by the account could trigger widespread confusion and panic among lakhs of students and parents ahead of the highly sensitive National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. However, the Solicitor General clarified that the federal administration held no further objections to restoring the digital handle given that the national medical entrance examination has successfully concluded.
Acknowledging the submission from the Centre, Justice Sharma noted that the foundational basis for keeping the account restricted had ceased to exist. The bench emphasised the importance of maintaining public order during major competitive exams while simultaneously ensuring that restrictions do not outlive their utility. Following the judicial order, Dipke expressed his gratitude online, describing the verdict as a significant milestone for digital rights and free speech, while reaffirming the group’s commitment to raising youth-centric issues across digital media networks.
